It’s easy to be swept up in what is going on around us, to want to help others, to feel like we need to be involved in everything, but when we do this we often are left feeling overwhelmed, drained and exhausted. It’s ok to say No to things. But, working out what you want to say No to and what you want to be involved in can be difficult when you are not clear on your values.
What are Values?
Before you can define your values you need to understand what values are. Your values are your core beliefs, what you believe to be the most important thing in your life, relationships, and work. Your values are the criteria you assess your life by. When you are clear on your values, you can determine if your goals, intentions, and actions are working in alignment with your values to create a life that flows effortlessly. When your values are clear, you will create the life of your dreams.
What do you love?
Start by listing out all the things you love.
- What lights you up?
- What things in your life bring you joy?
- Where is your happy place?
- Who are the top 5 people you love spending time with and why?
- What are your favourite activities to do?
- What do I need to do for my soul?
Don’t be afraid to let your imagination run wild here. This list is a list of all the possibilities, all the love, and joy you could have in your life if you were open to it being so. This list is free from limits and your self-sabotaging beliefs.
So what are your core values? Everyone’s core values are different, and they change and evolve as we do. Connecting with your core values, though, helps to get clear on what you want from life, and saying No to the things that are not in alignment with your path.
Take a moment to reflect on your life. Compare where your life currently is to the list of things you love… do they match up? If not, why not? It is at this point that the real work on our mindset begins. Nothing changes if nothing changes! So grab a notebook or journal and start writing. Identify what tools, resources, mindset shifts, changes to your lifestyle, etc. you would need in order for you to believe that your dreams, your true vision, could come to life? What needs to change for you to bring your current life and your life lived by your core values back into alignment?
Real change, lasting change, occurs when we do the work and create new patterns of behaviour or thought for ourselves. So, set aside some time and begin to reconnect with what is truly important to you!
