The general consensus seems to be that 2016 was a shitty year. Trump became the next US president, differing ethnicities and religious fanatics continue to destroy each other, and almost everyone I’ve spoken to (or follow online) is glad to see the back end of 2016. And I partly agree. Personally, 2016 has been full on. But without the darkness, there could not be light.  Out of chaos comes great change.

It is this mantra that has helped make the chaos bearable, almost exciting. Thinking back on the obstacles we’ve personally faced, I cannot help but start to think of the growth and change that has begun to bloom, and will continue to bloom in the new year. Now, times our own personal growth and change by all the other people in the world going through chaos in 2016 and the potential for an energetic shift, an uprising of our collective consciousness, in 2017 is well and truly possible. I am excited for the future of the human race.

Now, more than ever, more people are breaking out of the socially constructed roles ingrained in us from birth. Mothers are running multi-million dollar businesses while raising their children at home. Fathers are being recognized as more than just babysitters or daddy-daycare. We are shifting further away from the mentality that toys can only be considered for girls if they are all pink. And the collective consciousness is speaking up and out for the inequalities in our world. We are learning to live with less, in order to have more. We are questioning those in power and whether they really have our individual and collective best interests at heart. The world is waking up and becoming aware of the present.

When the clock ticks over at midnight tonight lives will not instantly improve. Time keeps moving. Challenges and obstacles will continue to present themselves in our lives, regardless of whether it is 2016, 2017, or any date in the future. But, it is how we react to the chaos and how we choose to move forward that will ultimately impact on whether we see our life and situations as positive or negative. So, 2017 will not be my best year ever, instead, I choose positivity in every moment. I choose to live each moment, working on my dreams and grateful for the change and growth that comes from chaos.
